Heikki A. Huhtamäki

Heikki heads our dispute resolution and bankruptcy related practices.

Heikki is an experienced counsel in Finnish arbitration (rules of FAI, SCC and Finnish ad hoc) and litigation proceedings.

He has acted as counsel in more than 700 litigation proceedings, arbitration proceedings, and dispute investigations altogether (since 2009). Heikki has particular experience in cases relating to e.g.:

• shareholders’ agreements and shareholders’ disputes

• software agreements (i.a. terms: IT2015, IT2018, and IT2022)

• product and consultation liability (i.a. terms: KSE2013)

• employment agreements

• construction agreements (i.a. terms YSE1998)

• IPR

• Board liability

• financial services

• claw back (i.e. recovery) demands of bankruptcy estates

• white-collar crime

In addition, Heikki has also advised clients as creditors and debtors in Finnish bankruptcy and restructuring proceedings and in mediation procedures.

On the academic side, Heikki is highly merited.

Heikki’s doctoral dissertation focused on monetary injunctions in Finland and in the EU (“Rahavarojen turvaamistoimet Suomessa ja Euroopan unionissa”, 2019). In addition, Heikki is the author of the books Valid Non-Compete Contract (i.e. “Pätevä kilpailukieltosopimus”, 2010) and Non-Compete and Non-Disclosure Obligations in Agreements (i.e. “Kilpailukielto ja salassapito sopimussuhteissa”, 2014). Heikki is the co-editor and co-author of the book European Account Preservation Order A multi-jurisdictional guide with commentary published by Larcier Intersentia in 2024. He has also published several articles in all major Finnish law journals since 2008 and Heikki has been even elected as a referee expert for Defensor Legis and Lakimies journals.

In addition to his doctoral degree in law, Heikki holds a master’s degree in business and administration.

Before working at law firms, Heikki also acted as a Law Clerk and trained on the bench at the District Court of Southern Ostrobothnia in 2011.

He is a member of the Finnish Bar Association.

He was also a member of the Finnish Bar Association’s Legal Expert Team of Civil Process Law during the years 2020-2022.

In December 2016, Heikki was a Visiting Researcher at the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for Procedural Law.

Heikki speaks and serves clients in Finnish, Swedish, and English fluently.
